Is Microsoft Songsmith a clever joke? (See below).
Most of the blogosphere seems to think not. Even the NY Times isn’t sure. Personally speaking, I thought it was a joke the first time I saw it and I still do. But then I also thought that house prices were going to keep on rising for ever, so maybe I’m not the best person to listen to.
If Crispin Porter do turn out to be behind what would be a fairly large and elaborate hoax, will it really help shift perceptions of the brand.? Or will the anti-Microsoft crowd just shrug their shoulders and dismiss it as a typically lame Microsoft joke.
I don’t have the answer to this, but it seems to me that anti-Microsoft sentiment is so entrenched in certain quarters that if you told them that Bill Gates ate babies and was responsible for 9/11, they would believe you without question.
One thing is for sure, it’s got people blogging, making Songsmith covers of classic rock songs, and original works and no doubt selling quite a few units of what was a little sideline for some developers.
What’s my conclusion? Well I don’t really have one, but if you do happen to know whether or not this is a joke, then I’d like to hear from you.
